The BMX industry is small and BMX sports wear have come and go over the years. Some companies have been really successful, other has been unsuccessful, other have launch full factory American made BMX Company. What actually make a clothing company successful in BMX? Some people will talk about the design or the quality and some will talk about who’s on the team. But that question never really had any clear answer.  On the other hand, the skateboard industry being really close to us, many brands cross both our sports as a way to be more profitable since we ride the same style of cloths, hat, shoes… I personally think the best way to insure the success of a good clothing company in BMX industry is guided by theses:

1. Support your local scene / friends

-The best way to start anything in BMX is to have your friends and your scene on your side. They will sell the brand better than anyone else because you make them benefit from it by organizing jam, events, party… Even the biggest company in the sport throws local jams and casual parties. Those who are there for the money, dont last long in the industry.

2. Do something that riders will love

-As stupid as it sounds, its not because one of your friend or your mom loves it that it will sell! Before launching something, make sure to have feedback from people who have a reputation for being well dressed. Sure its frustrating to work on something for many hours and have a (Well dude, it looks like shit!) but its better than being stuck with 2000 ugly shirts in your basement.

3. Don’t be too different but original

-Some companies come and go with innovating style, sometime it’s a hit but most of the time it’s a shooting star which get trendy for couple months and dies in the same year then the company get remembered for that short come and go.

4. Be careful with your image

-The guy who runs a brand is as much important as the brand itself because he’s the image of his brand. If the dude is a dick, nobody will get in the boat and will even try to support whatever he is doing. Be nice to the right people, it’ll pay off!

This is personally what I think, someone might have a better view of the whole thing, but as far as I seen the BMX industry for the past 13 years, it always came down to these points.

I heard many times about planning to move the Pipe somewhere where nobody would be bitching about having skateboard/BMX riding in it, I also heard they wanted to put it down. Like everybody, I didn’t really had faith in any of these rumors, I thought to myself, if they really want to put it down, its gonna happen that we like it or not, they have the money, we don’t! But you gotta understand, the Big-O pipe is home of one of the oldest Skateboard crew in Montreal and there was no way they would let that gem go down in history like Britney Spears. After months and months of talking to the media, forming a committee to represent the skateboard community, arrangements were made and there we go, the Big-O pipe is rollin’ 50 feet down the hill to get out of the way and out of the destruction! Legend skateboarders Barry Walsh and Mark Tisson were some of those involved in the committee and the Big Thanks here goes to the skateboard crew: Embassy MTL and Mr Joey Saputo himself.

We just gotta say thanks from the BMX community for saving the pipe and keeping one of the most awesome spot in Montreal
