Montreal Olympic Stadium

Built for the 1976 Olympic games, the Olympic Stadium is recognize world wide as a Cnadian signature monument, it is the highest leaning tour in the world standing at 175m high. It was home of the baseball team “The Montreal’s Expos” that sadly got sold to Washington in 2004, Most of Montreal residents still wear proudly the dead symbol of the Expos, wich will forever represent an era that got defined by memorable moments which are now vestiges of the past. If you want to know more about the Olympic stadium you can look right HERE.
The main subject I wanna relate is the relation between the architecture and our sport, the olympic park feature some of the most recognize spot in North America, such as the half-pipe. If you live in Montreal and your a BMXer or a Skateboarder the chances are that you rode the stadium at least once and when crews comes from out-of-town, it’s basically the main attraction, you can literally spend an entire day riding at this gigantic spot.
Getting motivated to ride there on a regular basis is pretty hard. Its concrete everywhere you look, there’s not much scenery and the move you wanna pull for your next video part probably got pulled by a pro 6 years ago who was in town for 2 days. But it doesn’t mean there’s no more lines left to do. The stadium is not really close to the downtown area (a good 20 min biking) wich is not practical.
Some legend made their mark at the Big-O such as Jim Cielencki dropping the top of the half-pipe in the transition, Van Homan icepick stall the fence behind the pipe, Jimmy Le Van dropping in the big wall and the list goes on… Everytime we ride there, we relate some of those tricks thinking how crazy they are and reminding us how lucky we are to have this big concrete thing.
If you came to Montreal, you probably rode this spot and even with its bad side, I still enjoy rocking this one of kind spot on a solo week session. There’s so much to say about this I could literally write a book, I’ll stop here and enjoy the pictures
